SCAD FASH is hands down one of my happy places. To be part of a community that just gets it and celebrates talent without subjective inference, is an experience like none other. It is deemed an international stage in the southeast for design showcases, fashion shows, and exhibitions. I like to share a bit more in detail when it comes to my community. To get and accept me, one would have to do so from an objective standpoint. Follow me because you like style, passionate about the who and why behind it. I am not here to distract you with anything less. Everything else about me is considered a bonus add.
I want fab girls and fly guys to reach their highest self through me or whom and what I bring to light via my content. Great style is more than clothes; there’s many facets that come about in achieving such outside of aura, grooming, image, confidence and knowing what best suits you in regard to personal style. Knowledge is what many don’t have outside of just trying to grasp the aforementioned qualities.
Fashion IQ is very much a thing. When you have such, you can delineate a multitude of external factors such as quality pieces, authenticity, proper styling compilation, whose fashionable or stylish, an appreciation for expression and those who seamlessly exhibit artistry within their persona and design. If you have yet to attend a museum or exhibit, I encourage you to do so. You will gain new perspective and understanding of the world around you, as you take in respective exhibitions.
Imane Ayissi: From Africa to the World
Cameroonian Couture Designer, Imane Ayissi’s designs (@imane_ayissi) are currently on exhibit at SCAD. The man behind the brand hails from a family of creatives. He has worked as a model for famous luxury and pret-a porter brands such as Dior, Lanvin, Givenchy, and Valentino. As I walked through the exhibit, I could clearly see myself in his designs. They give elegance, attention to detail, and main character energy. The designs also embody a fusion of European and African design to yield such exquisite pieces.
The sketches of the ensembles displayed are inspiring in their own right. It also fueled my creative reign to place my mindset within that of a designer. These elements provided me greater insight and appreciation of the time and dedication it took to bring each design to fruition. As I viewed more than forty signature looks, the beauty and inherent aesthetic in Ayissi’s work did not go unnoticed to my keen eye.
The luxury fashion house is known for its combination of African heritage and luxury Parisian haute couture. The eponymous brand is a regular at African Fashion Weeks. It is in Paris, during Paris Haute-Couture week, that Ayissi presents his new collections.
The opportunity to see Ayissi’s designs stateside should not be taken lightly. The debut solo exhibition is on view at SCAD FASH through February 23, 2025. Curated by Rafael Gomes, creative director of SCAD FASH museums.
