Tea Service-The Ballantyne

January 1, 2022 By Keyda No Comments

If you’re a lover of tea or like to get out and experience life while dressing your best, consider an afternoon tea. Tea service is a perfect occasion to catch up with friends or makes for a great family outing. My recent experience of afternoon tea at the Ballantyne Hotel in Charlotte, NC was very approachable. I have attended an afternoon tea in Peacock Alley at the Willard in Washington, DC and can deem the experience similar but with more substantive options while the Ballantyne exudes a southern flair.

I will break down my experience at the Ballantyne Hotel. The hotel is part of the luxury collection of Marriott and offers the best of both worlds- resort style amenities and a posh spa. Afternoon Tea is offered Friday through Sunday from 1-4pm within the picturesque lobby of the hotel. There are also special themed tea offerings. In order to make a reservation, one must call the hotel. There is no initial digital trail, prepay or deposit required. You will receive a follow up call reminding you of your reservation as the date approaches.

Private group tea rooms can also be reserved in advance. There is a separate cost for adults and kids. You can do an optional champagne add on as well. Gratuity is automatically added and can be deemed steep with a small party. The hotel partners with Rare Tea Company which, is the official tea of the royal family so expect a variety of curated blends. I indulged on a mix of tea sandwiches, pastries, and scones. The scones were a favorite-paired with the lemon curd. Be mindful that the menu changes seasonally.

Update (2024): Reservations can now be made at OpenTable. Automatic gratuity is at 24%.

Service was impeccable and the experience was a luxurious one. If you are in the Charlotte area or plan to visit, place this activity on your list. If you’re not within the surrounding areas, all hope is not lost. Be proactive and research tea service offerings within your local area or where you may be traveling to, that you can partake in to experience the British tradition.
