Milkbread (@milkbreadallday) opened its doors at the top of the year and is located in Davidson, NC. The charming town is about twenty miles north of Charlotte and adjacent to Lake Norman. The casual all day restaurant is named after restaurateurs, Joe and Katy Kindred’s signature milkbread served at their acclaimed restaurant, Kindred. Milkbread is quaint with a clean and minimalistic design. My initial thought was someone has an eye for design. It turns out that Katy does (@katykindred) and has launched an interior design firm called Kindred Studio. Upon entering the restaurant, you will order at the counter service and be provided with a table number. Food and coffee are brought out to patrons. Tucked around the corner from the service ordering counter is the utensil stand that also houses condiments and soft drink selection. The concept is not fussy; there is no dedicated server. You are to dispose of your food, return dirty trays, and silverware to their designated spot upon leaving.
The menu covers breakfast and lunch items. Prince L and I arrived at the restaurant around lunchtime. We opted for the mini version of the original crispy chicken sandwich, fries, and crispy cauliflower. All were great. The cauliflower is a must try. I plan to try the grandfather’s pickles on a subsequent visit. I was also told that the Avocado Toast and Green Goddess Cobb Salad are customer favorites. There is a small selection of beer and wine available.
Let’s not forget the browned milk donuts! Options are original glazed or chocolate. I am not into comparisons, yet Prince L stated the taste put him in the mind of Krispy Kreme. They were delicious and very filling I must add.
If you’re wanting an unpretentious all day dining experience that is also family friendly, make sure to give milkbread a visit. The restaurant is located at 624 Jetton St, Davidson, NC 28036 and operates 7 days a week.
