Fab Girls, get ready to clutch your pearls in a good way of course. I want to preface by not just saying pearls are trending, when any woman worth her salt knows that pearls are a timeless classic. I have quality timeless pearls from the start of my finance career, that I still wear today for an added touch of sophistication to workwear.
Pearls are more so deemed a versatile accessory and have endured decades of changing styles. The latter is where the element of trends come into play. You can invest in quality jewelry or dabble in faux when it comes to wearing and styling pearls in 2024. Winnie Harlow played on this element well and stunned as a pearl-clad cowgirl on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet.
Should we blame this reemergence on Bridgerton season 3 where, Francesca Bridgerton shows how delicate pearls pair well with opulent gowns. Penelope Featherington’s engagement ring, blends diamonds and pearls which has resonated with viewers. Pearl engagement rings are now trending. If you’re getting engaged maybe drop hints or if that’s not your current thing, it’s an aha moment to dabble in that particular style but more so as a statement aesthetic to make the look your own.
One can shed the bourgeois connotation and just look to the summer 2024 catwalks from New York, Paris, and Milan. That’s how I spot and wear trends 6-12 months ahead of the masses.
Pearls were notably seen this past Fall at Givenchy SS24. Former creative director for the brand, Matthew M. Williams allowed accessories to make a statement in completing the looks. Crystal chokers and rings were adorned with the timeless charm of delicate pearls. I also saw an ear cuff and earrings adorned with large pearls. It is of note, that Matthew has since left Givenchy to dedicate himself to his own fashion brand.
What are your thoughts on Fly Guys wearing pearls? I actually think it’s chic and stylish on the modern man. Usher understood the assignment and did not play fair at the Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week 2023. The chunky gold jewelry and pearl necklaces are most definitely on trend.
Last month, I came across the now sold-out sunglasses below from AKIRA and paired them (another alternative) with a layered necklace from Zara’s 2023 Fall collection to complete the look below.
