Boutique hotels have always been a favorite of mine. They are usually stylish and situated in a fashionable urban location. There is distinct character, intentional design and personal service. The Thompson Hotels brand fits the aforementioned and is one of Hyatt’s most requested (Hyatt Hotels Corp owns the Thompson Hotel Brand). I have had an opportunity to stay at Thompson Savannah and Thompson Buckhead, in which I am sharing my experience at the latter location. The Thompson Buckhead is a new chic retreat, nestled in one of Atlanta’s most desirable neighborhoods. Buckhead is known for its luxury shopping boutiques, enviable night scenes, and trendy eateries. The hotel has various amenities (fitness center; room service; pool; concierge) including a private rooftop club (Tesserae) exclusive to hotel guests and invited members. The ground floor of the hotel houses Dirty Rascal- a 140 seat Italian American restaurant that serves breakfast, brunch, and dinner daily. Breakfast is served a la carte.
Upon arriving at the hotel, you will be greeted with attentive service by valet; that consistency remained throughout my stay with staff. I was able to squeeze Dirty Rascal’s into my itinerary for breakfast. The egg sandwich and buttermilk pancakes were delicious. I did not notice an overcrowding of individuals and the establishment attracted a like crowd as it relates to caliber of guest, hence an upscale and low-key vibe.
The ten-story hotel has 201 rooms and suites that feature custom furnishings, curated minibars and spa-like bathrooms with top tier products. Spaces are deemed idyllic to lounge and recharge during your stay. The beds made for a comfortable stay which, is no surprise as the guestrooms offer custom 400 thread count Sferra linens and Sealy Tempur-Pedic mattresses.
After checking in, I was in awe of a show-stopping sculpture termed “Dissipate”. Contemporary sculptor, J.W. Archer transformed simple blocks of wood to derive the creation that embodies the relationship between nature and contemporary human experience. Can we just say “wow”! It’s a definite must see in person. The hotel was brought to life and character by Studio 11 design.
